It was a beautiful spring day in the village, and you were taking advantage of it. Even thought there was still snow on the ground, the flowers were springing up around the marketplace, and you were running around, picking a bouquet for your mother. She had sent you out to get some things for dinner, and after you were done, you decided to pick some of the flowers for her, for all she had done for you after your father went missing.  Rumor was that a vampire lived in the abandoned castle at the edge of the village, and the night he went missing, your father was hunting at the edge of the village.  The village had sent out search parties for weeks, but there was never any trace. When the snow thawed that spring, the villagers had found his body with two marks in his neck, side by side. The leader, Ivan had declared it was a vampire, and ordered everyone to stay in the village from then on. Little did they know that every year since your father’s death, you had gone out to the place they had found him, and put flowers there, as a memorial to him. That time was only a few days away, so while picking flowers, you were also scouting out the prettiest flowers to pick on the day of your father’s discovery to leave for him. ‘_____’ Someone called out, waking you from your daydream. “Do you want the bread or not?” The baker, Francis asked. “oh, Yes, I'm sorry Francis” you replied as you handed him the money for the bread and put it in your bag, along with the rest of your groceries and the flowers. “Go a lot on your mind, eh mon ami?” He said with a chuckle as he gave you a pat on the head. “Y-yeah” you answered, unsure of what he was doing. Francis was a notorious flirt in the village, but he seemed more like a father to you, though some times you doubted him. “Alright, stay safe!” he called out to you as you scurried away back to your home.

~To the castle~

Vladimir paced up and down the hallway, excited, but hungry. This year he was going to find the girl who kept leaving flowers in the field. The man he had left there years ago had trespassed, and had gotten what he deserved, but a girl, a beautiful girl, kept going back there, leaving trinkets and little presents.Vlad had taken a liking to the girl, and this year he was going to take her as his own. He had heard the rumors, he knew the order to stay inside the village, so when she disappeared, nobody would look for her. “Perfect” he whispered, “this will be perfect.”

~To your house~

“MOM! I’M HOME!” you call as you place the bag down in the hallway, walking off to the kitchen to put the flowers in the vase. There was no answer. “MOM!?” You call again, worried. Still nothing. Running into the kitchen, you see a stack of plates lying on the ground, shattered with blood spattered all over them. “”MOM!!!!! WHERE ARE YOU!?” you scream, running through the house, searching for your mom. You sink to your knees and start crying, when you hear a faint call. “I’m over here darling. In the bathroom” Sprinting to the bathroom, you slam the door open to see your mother cleaning off her legs, which are bleeding rather severely. “Mom! You….You’re alright!” you cry, happy to see your mother alive. She chuckles, “Yes, dear. I’m alive. Why would you think otherwise?” You stand in the doorway, sheepishly looking down at your feet. “well, I guess With the blood and the broken plates, I just assumed………..” “OH! The plates! Would you mind cleaning them up for me? I dropped them because I was startled by a knock at the door.” “At the door” you question. “yes darling, at the door. Your father’s friend, Antonio came over with some tomatoes. I was making spaghetti, and I didn’t want to leave the house.” she explained, wrapping a bandage around her leg. You respond, “oh” before walking out and grabbing the broom to sweep up all the shards.

The days pass slowly as you wait for your trip out of the city, during the final hours of that night, you pack your backpack with a snack and a lunch, preparing for a few hours of walking out to where he was found. Finally, you bring a small token, a reminder of your father. This year it was the cross necklace he had given you during your first communion. You had worn it every day even since, and it was your last little trinket, as this was to be the last year you were to go to that place. Morning came quickly, and after your mother woke, you headed to the marketplace to pick the flowers.

“Hello, ‘_____’” A gruff voice behind you says. You turn around to see Ivan staring at you with his violet eyes, laced with accusation. “Who are those for?” he demands, not letting you pass by him. “My father” you say, proudly. You were actually irritated by his sudden appearance. “Your father is dead, who are they really for?” he demands, suspicious of you. Francis, overhearing this steps in. “They really are for her father, Ivan. She has nobody else to give them to. I believe I would have known, if she did.” he says, winking at you. You blush and nod at his comment. “Well, I guess I’ll just leave you then. If Francis says so , it must be so.” Ivan says, turning and leaving you two alone. “Thank you, Francis” you say, hugging him. “No problem, ‘_____’ Are you really going out there again? I’m worried about you.” he answers, hugging you back. “Yeah, It’s the last year though. Don’t wait fro me this year, I might take a while saying my final goodbyes. Ok?” you say to Francis, hopefully getting him to listen to you. “No, I will wait. And if you don’t come back I will find you. You’re like my only daughter, to a wife I never had. I won’t let anything happen to you.” he says, kindly, but sternly. “Thanks” you manage to say before you walk off towards the edge of town, little do you know what’s in store for you.

~To Vladimir~

Vlad paces in between the trees, waiting for you to arrive, he plans to let you have your minutes at the man’s memorial spot, but then you will be his. His hunger wont be satisfied until he has you, and that will be today. As he hears footsteps, Vlad hides in the bushes, to watch you and all your beauty until he can no longer stand it, you approach, and he smirks, looking at you with eyes full of lust.

You walk up to the spot where a simple cross stands, breathing heavily, you sit down. “I wasn’t expecting those wolves, father.” you say, it’s normal for you to have conversations here, you feel like he’s here talking to you, answering your questions and supporting you in any decision you make, nonetheless, he is still gone. As though it is ritual, you clear the snow from the area, and place the flowers at the base of the cross before kneeling in front of it and greeting your father. “Hello father. I can’t believe it’s been ten years. I was only nine those many years ago, nine when I first heard of the vampires, and nine when I stopped believing. Francis and mother are doing well, Francis is taking good care of me, he’s like my older brother, while he thinks of himself as my stand-in father. I don’t mind either way, do you?” You sit there and talk to him for another hour before you hear some footsteps behind you. Suddenly fearful, you turn to see a man you’ve never seen before in your entire life. “Hello” he says calmly. “You’re come to pay your respects, have you?” the man says. “yes, I have. Ten years ago my father was found here, the village believes it’s a vampire, but I don’t believe in such nonsense. “Nonsense?” the man asks with a red flash in his eyes. “yes, nonsense, Vampires are just folklore. They aren’t real. My father would have disapproved of me believing his death was caused by the supernatural, so I don’t” you say, full of pride and glory. “well, what if they are real” the man stated, walking closer to you, almost too close, as you could see the details of his uniform and the red sheen in his eyes. “B-but they aren’t!” you demand of him. The man looks down at you with a sadistic smirk before revealing a set of…..fangs! He grabs your arm and pulls you up to his eye level. “But they are, my dear ‘_____’. They are very real indeed, and if this man was your father, then yes, he was killed by a vampire.”
